The Hug Poster

“The Hug” echoes the themes of “The Kiss” but at the same time mirrors them in ways especially meaningful to the artist himself.  When he painted “The Kiss”, the artist was a younger man, lonely for a woman he had loved for a time, but “The Hug” emerged in a part of his life that blossomed with endless possibilities.  Just as in the previous work, the lovers are spun in a web of their own making, both their bodies as one, but here the man dreams of the woman from a higher, more exalted position.  While the kiss is often a tender, tentative gesture, the hug is teh bold embrace of a lover with whom we are confident and certain.
